- can't get enough of that funk funk funk anyway so i am moving very slowly today, and thus have accomplished little except going to two very slow syllabus distribution sessions. still yet another to go to. hopefully it will be better than southern politics class, which has about nine thousand people in a relatively small and quantitatively stuffy room, and whose first session was dominated by the teacher's posing of the question "what is the south?" sample answers: "we say y'all instead of you all." oh, thanks. the incredible predominance of white people, and my own slow-witted disorientation, meant that it wasn't until the last ten minutes or so of class that anyone mentioned that one unique characteristic of the south is that it practiced state-sanctioned racial segregation through the nineteen fifties at least.... admittedly, there were many, many, many more germane things to discuss in terms of the south politically, such as: country music is from there, and we eat grits. also, everyone is polite here, unlike northerners, such as New Yorkers, who are rude. it's days like this that i'm very glad college is free. (that said, i weaseled my way into photography class, and that is a really really really wonderful thing, i hope.) |
